Roz Fletcher

Roz was adopted in the 1960s as a three-week-old baby. Her birth mother carried shame and fear during the pregnancy due to attitudes of the time, providing a blueprint for Roz's expectations of the world. That complex maternal feelings were locked into the baby's body during gestation, was not acknowledged or understood. Now, as an adopter of two siblings Roz sees that the legacy of adoption trauma is held in both mind, body and the unconscious. Roz uses the malleable and ersatile medium of clay to model the unconscious and represent our potential for transformation. This ceramic sculpture 'Self, Inside' shows both the blood red physicality of trauma, and also the pod like form that holds the inner Self.
